My Fitness Journey!

So I have been talking about my fitness journey a lot lately.  Mostly because it is the best thing I have EVER done for myself! I don't think people quite understand what I mean by this, unless you have lived this lifestyle. The happiness and accomplishment you feel is indescribable. Here is the best example of what I mean...
I use to take showers and have Ahh Haa moments like "o today I am going to work out, put on makeup, look cute, maybe get my hair done, go tanning, clean house...."
Now--- I haven't once had that "I need to accomplish" thoughts! Because I am ALREADY accomplishing so much! No longer do I say, "I am going to..." because I ALREADY am! Its amazing!

Okay so what have I been doing. Well first I ended my job at the 1st of the year. With this I decided I would commit to a healthier lifestyle sooo... I gave up pop and fastfood.... Great right, drop an easy 10lbs, I thought! But I was wrong. Maybe lost 4 pounds from eliminating these two very unhealthy habits. Then with the start of a new school term I started working out. I was a cardio junkie (not the way to lose weight) then I decided to try lifting weights. But.... I would lift light, skip work outs and eat anything I wanted. All these made me not loose a single pound during Winter Term. My workout partner and I decided we would take it serious Spring Term and suddenly I saw changes!!!!

So here are a few things we did for me to drop, as of right now, a total of 15 pounds in 11 weeks. (19 including the 4 I lost prior)
  • We printed our workouts from bodybuilding.com, and placed them in a binder. We followed Lee Labradas Live Lean plan.
  • We made a commitment not to skip a workout during the weekdays, and if at all possible not during the weekend either.
  • We discussed to no end healthy eating habits. This makes you feel guilty about bad decisions, without harsh judgements. We encourage healthy eating ideas! My workout partner is a Smoothie queen. I am Protein Pancake queen.
  • We worked to eat healthy. For me its having a protein pancake in the AM. Snacks like almonds, carrots, protein powder, fruit, veggies. Lunch (lots of sandwiches until I started meal prepping) more snack and a healthy dinner.
    • Recipe for Protein Pancakes
      • 1 scoop Protein Powder
      • 1/4 C oats
      • 1/2 tsp baking pow
      • handful spinach
      • 2 egg whites
      • 1 tbsp coconut water
      • 1/2 banana
      • blend together in blender, place on skillet on medium low for 5-10min!
    • I do change my meals often. I am not a natural cook so simple and fast is the best. I will throw 3-4 breasts of chicken in the oven and 1 pound of lean ground beef on the skillet baggy it up to have throughout the week. This has been great for quick fast and enjoyable meals.
  • Allowed 2 cheat MEALS a week. To be honest some weeks its NONE! :) and some its like 4.
    • I am now starting to document on a calendar with a big C so I know I had my fill of 2 for the week! :) This starts tomorrow so we will see how it goes!
  •  Lifted heavier and heavier with GOOD FORM. This has changed both of our physiques a lot! When in doubt try 5 more pounds! Its worth it!
    • Here are examples of current weights I use.
      • Bicep Curl 20-25
      • Hammer curl 25
      • Barbell Chest Press 40
      • Squats 85-90
      • Dead Lift 85
  •  For me Instagram is AMAZING! I follow like 100 fitness people and it reminds me they all started where I was, so I can do this! :)
I want to note, I did not do all of this Monday morning on January 7th! This is happening slowly and organically! I also have a huge support team. There are days I talk myself out of crying over not enough progress or wanting throwing in the towel, convincing myself not to eat a cookie or convincing myself to eat a cookie because I am too obsessed. I have about 5 girls I can text at any time and know they will inspire me to move forward. I also have about 500 people I know I want to prove wrong so when in doubt, I get angry ;-)!

Here are a few things I have learned in the journey!
  1. It is completely up to you how successful you want to be.
  2. Very few people care about your journey or want to hear about it. (But those few who support you are amazing)
  3. Your body DOESN'T change over night!
  4. You dont suddenly think OMG I AM INCREDIBLY FIT AND ATTRACTIVE
  5. Your attitude changes for the positive without you even realizing it.
  6. You have a sense of accomplishment always
  7. Your own thoughts are the biggest barrier
  8. Pant sizes don't change quickly
  9. Clothes slowly fit better
  10. One day you wake up and say OMG I am still doing this, and I AM NOT STOPPING.
  11. You know your goals have "deadlines"
  12. You believe you can achieve ANYTHING you put your mind to!
Now what everybody wants! Some progress pics! I will post Week 1 then Week 4 and Week 11.
